CLINICS
ANTENATAL CLINICS
The practice offers antenatal and postnatal care. Please ask
at reception about days and times.
BABY CLINICS
The doctors and health visitor run baby clinics for child health
surveillance and immunising your children. The clinics also allow an opportunity to discuss
other problems.
HEALTH PROMOTION CLINIC
The health care assistant is available by appointment for
advice on smoking, weight control, menopause and help towards achieving a healthy lifestyle.
MINOR SURGERY CLINICS
Certain surgical procedures can be performed by the doctors in the surgery. If you wish to have a minor surgical procedure, eg removal of warts and skin tags, please first make a routine appointment with the doctor for assessment.
CERVICAL SMEAR/CHLAMYDIA SCREENING
Cancer of the cervix can be prevented. All female patients between
the ages of 25 and 64 are advised to have a regular smear test with our practice
nurse. We also perform screening for Chlamydia for patients who are sexually
active and between the ages of 15 and 24.
SMOKING CESSATION ADVICE
The practice offers support for those patients trying to quit smoking. Our nurses are trained to give smoking cessation counselling and offer nicotine replacement therapy. An appointment may be booked at reception.
COUNSELLING SERVICE
Patients wishing to be referred to our counsellors should speak
to their doctor in the first instance. Patients should be aware that they may have
to commit themselves to weekly counselling sessions at the surgery during working
hours.
TRAVEL IMMUNISATIONS AND VACCINATIONS
Please make an appointment at least eight weeks in advance of your holiday to ensure adequate cover. A charge will be made for certain immunisations and vaccinations which are not covered by the NHS. We are an appointed yellow fever vaccination centre.
INFLUENZA/PNEUMONIA VACCINATION
An influenza vaccination is particularly recommended for patients
over 65 and those with heart, lung or kidney disease, diabetes, and residents
of nursing and rest homes. Please contact the reception staff in October for
details of the vaccination dates and to make an appointment. Please note that the
flu vaccination cannot give you the flu!
Pneumonia vaccinations are available all year for the same category of patients.
One pneumonia vaccination will provide lifetime cover.
PHLEBOTOMY
We have a phlebotomist who comes on Wednesday mornings to our Mitcham
surgery thus saving you a trip to the hospital if you require blood tests.
PHYSIOTHERAPY
The practice has a physiotherapist at our Mitcham Practice. Referral is
via a doctor only.
TEENAGE CLINIC
Run by our nurse practitioner, this clinic is designed to meet the needs of patients in this age group. Please ask the receptionists for further details.
NON-NHS SERVICES
Certain services such as private sick notes, insurance claim
forms, passport applications and some medical examinations are not covered by
the NHS, and charges (available from reception) are made in line with BMA recommendations.
The doctors also perform medical examinations for insurance, employment, driving
licences, etc.
